WalMart Offers Prepaid Mobile Phones!
Let’s take a look at WalMart’s Straight Talk Wireless. Basically, TracFone combined forces with Walmart to create Straight Talk, a 3G/4G network that offers nationwide coverage.
The neat thing about Straight Talk is that you only need to visit a local Walmart store to purchase and set-up a plan. Considering that a WalMart can be found in nearly every city across the country…
Straight Talk is therefore one of the most readily available prepaid mobile services in the United States. Plus, it’s one of a very few providers that permit you to use a conventional corded or cordless phone as a wireless device.
- Discounted 90/180-Day Plans Available
- 24/7 Nationwide Purchase Options
- Humongous Phone Selection
- No Added Fees Or Contracts
WalMart’s Straight Talk Wireless plans cater to both those who need access to at-home services with a corded or cordless phone, and those who need conventional wireless services. We’re going to cover both.
First up are the conventional plans. They range from $30 up to $250.
- $30 – 30 Days, 1,000 Minutes, 1,000 Texts, 30MB Data
- $45 – 30 Days, Unlimited Calls / Texts / Data
- $60 – 30 Days, Unlimited Calls / Texts / Data / International
- $125 – 90 Days, Unlimited Calls / Texts / Data
- $250 – 180 Days, Unlimited Calls / Texts / Data
The latter plans add along unlimited international calls to over 1,000 destinations. Note also that all four plans offer completely free 411 calls. This means you never have to pay again to get basic information.
Monthly Home Plans
Next up are the two home plans. Both let you basically use your current corded or cordless home phone to make unlimited nationwide calls. The only difference between the two is that the more expensive option adds along international calls to over 1,000 destinations.
- $15 / Unlimited Nationwide Calls
- $30 / Unlimited Nationwide and International Calls
Also, you don’t have to pay extra if you ‘roam’ to another home or location. You just detach your phone from the outlet and plug it back up somewhere else. Simple enough, right?
Usage Based Plans
WalMart’s Straight Talk Wireless service is entirely prepaid, meaning no usage-based options are available at this moment in time.
Every single Straight Talk Wireless plan comes with unlimited voicemail, caller ID, 3-way calling, call waiting and call forwarding. Each plan also supports 100% free 911 and 411 calls.
One big advantage of this Walmart plan is that it sports no activation, cancellation or daily-access fees whatsoever. All you must pay for is the plan.
Interestingly enough, WalMart’s Straight Talk is compatible with T-Mobile SM phones and unlocked domestic GSM phones. Your best bet may be just to buy direct from Walmart, however, as you get to pick from a huge list containing every type of phone possible, from BlackBerry’s to Tracfones, Cricket phones, T-Mobile phones and more.
Help & Support
Support for Straight Talk is unfortunately relatively low. Many users report that the problems WalMart Straight Talk technicians are allowed to handle are very limited. So while yes you get excellent phone choices and decent prices, you must kind of contend with limited help and support.
Straight Talk Wireless is an awfully unique service. For one, you can get service set up at any Walmart. Nearly every city has a Walmart, and all Walmarts are open 24/7. This means you could set up service at 12:00 AM on New Year’s if you really want. Not only that, but WalMart’s Straight Talk Wireless service works with so many phones, including the iPhone 5. It really is a one-of-a-kind service that we expect more people to sign up for as the years pass.
