Telcel America Prepaid Phones
Note that Telcel America is not the same as Telcel, which is a fully featured, independent provider that operates in Mexico.
While named similarly, Telcel America is its own separate entity.
Regardless, it is a pay-as-you-go prepaid wireless phone service designed specifically for men and women who have loved ones in Mexico with whom they want to stay in touch.
Unfortunately, Telcel America is somewhat limited in coverage. It offers nationwide non-Android coverage (save for some rural areas in the West), but its Android coverage is very, very limited.
- Unlimited International Calls
- Unlimited 411 Calls
- Great Phone Compatibility
Telcel America offers a single monthly plan that retails for $60 and includes the following services:
- Unlimited Nationwide/International Calls
- 400 Minutes To Cell Phones In America
- Unlimited Mobile Web
- Unlimited 411 Calls
Note that the unlimited international calls refer to calls made to landlines. Also, it covers about 400 countries. Calling an international cell phone is quite different. However, the plan covers 400 minutes of talk time with individuals in Mexico who use cell phones.
If you want a Telcel America service plan, you’ll need to either purchase it through the company’s website or find a participating retailer. At the moment, this company’s services are offered in over 14,000 stores across the country.
Usage Based Plans
Unfortunately, Telcel does not offer usage-based plans.
Telcel plans come with voice mail, caller ID and call waiting.
Telcel America specializes in simplicity. This means you don’t have to undergo annoying credit checks, sign lengthy cracks or contend with credit checks and activation fees. You pay exactly what you sign up to pay.
Telcel America offers a few phones on its website, but the cool thing about it is that you can bring your own phone. For a GSM, it must either be compatible with T-Mobile or an unlocked GSM that operates on 850 and 1900 MHz frequencies. Note that you will need to purchase a Telcel America SIM card for it to work. It also accepts CDMA phones, but you have to get it checked for compatibility.
The other option is to purchase phones from its website. The available options include the following:
- $29.99 | Samsung Galaxy Precedent
- $39.99 | Motorola W419G
- $49.99 | LG 235C
- $59.99 | Motorola EX431G
- $79.99 | LG Optimum Dynamic
- $79.99 | Samsung Galaxy Precedent
- $99.99 | Samsung Galaxy Centura
- $129.99 | BlackBerry Curve
Help & Support
If you need service, you can either call Telcel America using a 1-800 number or email the company’s customer service agents. The website also happens to host a very extensive help section full of useful information.
Overall, Telcel America is a very simplistic, minimalist-grade provider, but it serves its purpose extraordinarily well. For one, its website can be accessed in both English and Spanish. For another, it does a great job catering to the Hispanic community. It is, for all intensive purposes, a very niche brand designed only for a select few people. And if you happen to be a part of its target audience, then it could very well be the best brand for you. Just keep in mind that it lacks in Android coverage. The good news though is that it offers a great auto-refill program that basically functions just like a regular phone plan. Each month, your credit card automatically gets charged and your service continues without any interruptions.
