Review of AT&T GoPhones
In the world of prepaid cellular phone services, the name GoPhone may not initially be as recognizable as well-known providers such as Boost Mobile or Cricket. However, the company behind GoPhone – telecommunications giant AT&T – doesn’t have that problem. This link with the massive phone company, both in name and in connection to its network, instantly makes GoPhone a major player.
Surprisingly, GoPhone does not offer an unlimited plan among its monthly plans. However, they do offer a quartet of distinctive packages. The packages they offer are as follows:
- $29.99 per month – This plan gives the user 200 anytime minutes. These minutes are deducted during “Mobile to Mobile” phone calls placed within the AT&T network, 411 Assistance calls, and text messaging.
- $39.99 per month – This plan offers 300 anytime minutes plus 500 night and weekend minutes.
- $49.99 per month – This plan provides 400 anytime minutes along with 3,000 minutes on nights and weekends.
- $69.99 per month – This plan gives the user 650 anytime minutes and includes unlimited minutes on nights and weekends.
It also should be noted that apart from the basic $29.99 plan, “Mobile to Mobile” calls placed within the AT&T network are not counted toward a user’s minutes. Considering how massive AT&T’s network is, that could be looked at as a potentially cost-effective feature.
Usage Based Phones
GoPhone offers customers a pair of usage based plans. The first plan is called the Unlimited Calling plan, and indeed offers unlimited calling, including domestic long distance calls, for $3 a day. This charge only applies on the days that customers use their phones. The second plan is dubbed Mobile to Mobile and charges a $1 daily fee plus (also only applicable on days where the phone is used) and $.10 per minute on all calls except for calls made to AT&T cell phones.
GoPhone also offers a pay-as-you-go service called a Simple Rate plan. And simplicity is the key to this plan, as it charges $.25 per minute on all calls made regardless of day, time, distance, or service provider.
The most appealing feature that GoPhone has to offer is its association with AT&T and its massive network. The Mobile to Mobile capability alone has the potential to save plenty of minutes as well as a bit of money. Plus, the AT&T network’s stellar reputation for speed, reliability, and call quality is viewed by many as a major selling point. Other features offered include voicemail, Call Waiting, 3-way calling, CallerID, and 411 Directory Assistance, although the latter element does cost $1.79 per use.
There is no activation or roaming fees associated with any of the GoPhone packages.
GoPhone does have one of the best phone selections among telecoms that provide prepaid wireless service. They not only offer a whopping twenty-two different mobile devices, but they also offer phones that contain impressive, state-of-the-art features, like Push-to talk capability, Bluetooth connectivity, music players, and much more.
Help & Support
There are several ways for consumers to obtain assistance and information with their GoPhone service. While telephone and e-mail support are solid, the company tends to get their highest service marks through their live chat feature. Website tools such as interactive user forums and an informative FAQ section are also available to help answer questions.
The AT&T pedigree that GoPhone comes from makes the service a force to be reckoned with among its peers. While some may feel their plan offerings are incomplete, others will find the rest of their services make those perceived gaps inconsequential.
